Welcome to the New York Shinbu-kan Kendo dojo website! We practice a form of Japanese martial art called Kendo in the Westchester County in New York. What is Kendo? The Wikipedia translates its concept as “Kendo is a way of discipline the human character through the application of the principles of the Katana (Japanese sword)”. Caroline Jablonski from New York Shinbu-kan got 2-kyu at the October promotion test. Congratulations to Caroline!

September 27, 2009
Muuhito Sakurai from New York Shinbu-kan was the second place at the Goyo-kai Kendo Tournament in the kyu division. The tournament had 182 participants. Congratulations to Muuhito!

Masakazu Tanahashi passed his Shodan (1-dan) promotion test. Congratulations!

June 19 and 20, 2009
We had the 15th Goyo-kai Kendo Seminar at Concordia College in Bronxville, NY. Ogimura-sensei from Boston Shufukai gave a detailed seminar on Kirikaeshi. We learned and enjoyed Kendo kata, Jikeiko, and shiai-keiko throughout the event.
